Unfortunately, neither Medicare nor Medicaid will cover the cost of a walk-in tub or shower. Medicare only provides assistance for Durable Medical Equipment (DME). A walk-in tub and shower is not considered a DME or medical necessity, but rather a convenience. In addition, Safe Step walk-in tubs are available for anyone and are not exclusive to Medicare beneficiaries or adults with special needs.
